The Ultimate Partner to Capture and Withstand the Most Punishing Environments

Whether it be in the mountains, on the beach, or in the snow, the Olympus Tough series can withstand the most punishing environments, to deliver the highest image quality. The TG-6 is the pinnacle of the Tough series, featuring the popular Variable Macro System, enhanced underwater shooting modes, and further system expandability with a new fisheye converter for circular fisheye photography. This camera has evolved to deliver a wider range of expressive power than ever before in any kind of environment.

Tough performance for shooting anytime, anywhere

The TG-6 delivers Tough performance that is waterproof to 15 m, dustproof, shockproof to 2.1 m, crushproof to 100 kgf, freezeproof to -10℃, and anti-fogging. These features make for worry-free use in the harshest environments.

Waterproof to 15 m

Sealing and a double-lock mechanism delivers waterproof performance up to depths of 15 m1. Not only does this make it possible to shoot in heavy rain, but it also lets you shoot while snorkelling.

  • Waterproof performance is JIS/IEC protection class 8 (IPX8).

Dustproof

The design features an airtight construction that shuts out sand and dust1. If your camera gets dirty, simply rinse with fresh water to wash off any excess dirt.

  • Dustproof performance is JIS/IEC protection class6 (IP6X).

Shockproof to 2.1 m

Even with a large, bright f/2.0 lens, this model can still clear drop tests of up to 2.1m. Our know-how has been utilised in every facet, including the lens shape, lens positioning, and the lens drive method, resulting in a high level of shock-absorbing performance1.

  • Shockproof construction resistant to 2.1 m (MIL-STD-810F compliant)

Crushproof to 100 kgf

To protect all inner parts including the lens unit and circuit boards, an interior protective structure which can withstand a weight of 100kgf1 has been employed. With this crushproof construction, you won’t have to worry about accidentally sitting on your camera when carrying it in your back pocket.

Freezeproof to -10℃

Operation at low temperatures is guaranteed down to -10℃1. With this feature, you can feel confident capturing your ski and snowboarding trips, and other winter adventures.

Anti-fog

The dual-pane protective glass helps prevent lens fogging in locations with sudden changes in temperature1.

LB-T01 Lens Barrier

The new LB-T01 Lens Barrier accessory (available separately) helps protect the lens surface from scratches and dirt. It can be opened and closed easily, by simply turning the edge, even when wearing gloves.

  • Items can’t be used simultaneously are: other accessories or conversion lens to be attacked to the mount, silicone jacket and underwater housing.
  • Macro LED illumination can’t be used while the lens barrier is attached. (It causes shadows on the photo.)

High image quality for improved detail

The bright f/2.0 high-resolution lens delivers high image quality thanks to a combination of the high-speed back-lit CMOS sensor and the latest image processor.

High-resolution F2.0 lens

The TG-6 features a high-resolution, F2.0 lens with an optical 4x zoom. Lenses developed with advanced optical technology are used, including a DSA (Dual Super Aspherical) lens for high image quality. The bright F2.0 lens makes it possible to use a fast shutter speed to reduce subject blur, even when capturing moving subjects in dark locations.

Image sensor and image processor

This camera is equipped with a high-speed, high-sensitivity back-lit CMOS image sensor, and the TruePic VIII, the same image processor as on the OM-D E-M1 Mark II professional model. This design allows for low noise and high-resolution image quality.

  • High-sensitivity shooting is possible up to ISO 12800.

AR coating reduces ghosts and flares

Anti-reflective (AR) coating is now used on both sides of the sealing glass over the image sensor. This construction minimises ghosts and flaring.

RAW photography

The TG-6 allows shooting in RAW format. RAW images can be edited and processed on a computer using the new image editing software, Olympus Workspace. RAW processing on the camera is also supported.

Amazing Variable Macro System

The Amazing Variable Macro System consists of four macro shooting modes and two separately available accessories for macro shooting. This system makes it possible to capture amazing photos of the tiniest details.

4 macro shooting modes

1. Microscope Mode
2. Microscope Control Mode
3. Focus Stacking
4. Focus Bracketing

Microscope Mode

This mode provides amazing macro shooting capabilities, able to photograph subjects up to 1 cm away from the end of the lens. Using the optical zoom, it is possible to zoom in on subjects for a view that is almost like looking through a microscope. (35mm equivalent image magnification: 7x)

Focus Stacking

This mode composites varying depths of field by capturing multiple images at different focal positions. It lets you take macro photos that are completely in focus from the front to the back. 3 to 10 shots can be set for compositing. A smaller number of composite shots means that compositing time is shorter, and a larger number results in a greater range in focus.

Focus Bracketing

Simply press the shutter once to capture up to 30 shots while gradually shifting the focal location in Focus Bracketing. Because the impression of macro photos changes drastically according to the focal location, Focus Bracketing can be used to select the best shots depending on the focal location when checking recorded images. The amount of focal shift can be selected from three different options. (35mm equivalent image magnification: 7x)

Macro shooting in P/A modes

Up-close macro shooting up to 1 cm* from the end of the lens is possible even in P and A modes.

  • At 1.2x or higher magnification

Macro shooting accessories

There are two types of separately available accessories in the Variable Macro System.

LG-1 LED Light Guide

This is an accessory that evens out the illumination of the camera’s built-in LED light. This makes it possible to light the scene even when the camera casts a shadow on the subject.

  • Cannot be used underwater.
  • FD-1 Flash Diffuser

This accessory uses the cameras built in flash to light scenes. It is perfect for lighting macro shots in dark locations, and for shooting moving subjects such as insects. The FD-1 Flash Diffuser is equipped with light output control, allowing you to adjust the lighting output in approximately 1.4 steps to match shooting

    Advanced underwater shooting

The dedicated underwater mode for capturing high quality images underwater is now more advanced than ever. Accessories that support underwater photography are also enhanced with the addition of a fisheye converter lens for circular fisheye photography.

    5 underwater modes

This model is equipped with five modes that are optimal for underwater shooting. Simply set the mode dial to Underwater.

    Underwater Macro

This mode is optimised for close-up shooting of small subjects. Zoom in close on subjects via telephoto and use the flash for sharp and clear images.

    • The closest focus distance from the end of the lens is 10 cm.

    Underwater Microscope

This mode lets you shoot extreme close-ups of subjects from 1 cm away from the end of the lens. With this feature, it is possible to magnify subjects as if using a microscope underwater.

    • Use together with the FD-1 Flash Diffuser for best results.

    Underwater Wide

This mode is optimised for shooting in dark underwater conditions. Various settings such as the flash, auto-focus, white balance, and others are optimised for photos with a real sense of presence.

    Underwater Snapshot

The camera uses natural light when shooting in pools and other shallow water for natural colours of underwater subjects and snapshots.

    Underwater HDR

Multiple images are recorded at different exposures, and composited to dramatically reproduce both bright and dark underwater sections.

    Underwater WB (White Balance)

There are now three more underwater white balance options to select from in order to achieve the optimal colour reproduction depending on the depth of water. Each of the five underwater modes has the optimal underwater WB preset (can be changed if desired).

    Underwater: Shallow
This improves the reddish cast that occurs in shallow water up to a depth of 3 m.

    Underwater: Mid Range
This is a standard setting optimised for water depths from 3 to 15 m.

    Underwater: Deep
This setting improves the bluish cast that occurs in water depths of 15 m or more where the underwater case is used.

    • Water depths described above are guidelines. The way colours appear underwater changes depending on ocean and weather conditions.

    Underwater shooting accessories

Separately available accessories that can be used underwater include fisheye converters (two types) and a teleconverter lens.

    FCON-T02 Fisheye Converter

This fisheye converter lens enables circular fisheye photography. Simply change the zoom position to capture both circular and diagonal fisheye shots. It features a waterproof treatment, enabling further opportunities to capture underwater scenes. The interior of the lens is filled with nitrogen gas, preventing internal fogging due to temperature differences.

    • The separately sold CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter is required to attach this lens.

    Circular fisheye

    • Diagonal fisheye

    FCON-T01 Fisheye Converter

This fisheye converter lens provides 130-degree fisheye shooting capabilities for capturing wider landscape photos. The FCON-T01 Fisheye Converter is waterproof and is most useful in underwater photography where the angle of view becomes narrow. The interior of the lens is filled with nitrogen gas, preventing internal fogging due to temperature differences.

    • The separately sold CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter is required to attach this lens.

    TCON-T01 Teleconverter

This teleconverter lens converts the focal length to 1.7x. Far-away landscapes can be captured at a larger size. The interior of this waterproof lens is filled with nitrogen gas, preventing internal fogging due to temperature differences.

    • The separately sold CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter is required to attach this lens.

    PT-059 Underwater Case

This underwater housing made exclusively for the TG-6 can withstand pressure to a water depth of 45m. Even when installed in the case, the camera control dial can be used for exposure compensation. The front surface is black to prevent any unwanted reflections. The case supports the use of two external flash units.

    • The Field Sensor System will not operate properly when the camera is installed in the underwater housing. Make sure to set the log lever to the off position when using the housing.
    • Use together with silica gel for best results.

    Superb system expandability

The TG-6 features superb system expandability with a wealth of accessories including those for macro shooting and converter lenses. This design also delivers the control required in punishing environments.
